[it's true, he has a Lot of blurry shoyos he needed to take before the good ones existed in between, like little gems of clarity. maybe he'll send one some day where shoyo looks like a blurred cryptid against a bunch of children playing volley ball.
but the pal pictures? actual laugh. he probably goes to show pal as well because it's too good not to.]
I think he likes them.
[the next picture is one of pal just sighing after seeing said pictures. rio is probably lying her head on his lap and trapping him. she weighs like five of him.]
[ pal. you poor soul . . . you’re doomed to a life of being the gossip news headline. ]
he better! i risked my life for those!
[ next up is a selfie from shōyō’s view. he’s stooped very low from the looks of it, for pal to seem so high up in his HOTWINGS jersey. from the perspective, pal even looks like a giant, with only the top of shōyō’s head visible from the bottom right hand side of the screen. shōyō is certainly expressive enough to show that he’s comically terrified, while pal . . .
clearly looks too focused on spreadsheets to seem amused, thin lipped and glasses all light-reflecting and menacing from that particular angle. that was probably the best part.
[pal is basically a meme they share at this point. that's true affection, surely.
honestly it's the anime glasses shine that really makes this picture. viktor enjoys it almost as much as he enjoys picturing pal trying to do Serious Sports Work while shoyo goofs around him.]
You truly take on a great deal of danger with your job, I see.
[when he sends that something else comes through the omni as well, something clearly not sent in any obvious way, just a memory filling shoyo's screen. it's of two men in an office, one clearly viktor about a decade younger, the other a man with broad shoulders and a similar uniform.
they're working over an odd contraption containing a blue crystal crackling with energy.] It's time to crank it.
[young viktor says that with a grin as the other man works over the machine, giving him an uncertain look as he asks viktor,] Are you sure you know what you're doing?
[viktor's face says nope. does not. but he still leans forward to press the button on the machine and watch the parts begin to move, blue light pouring all through the office.
a lot of exciting Science happens- explosions! broken windows! blue! the crystal stabilizes, the experiment begins, things get hm, a little dicey. at one point viktor moves to the door to jam his cane into the handles to buy them more time.
no pressure, he tells jayce, who informs him that very much is pressure, thanks.
and so shoyo gets to see the birth of hextech, floating through the air as a distressed yordle frets about the dangers of magic. jayce and viktor are beaming with the new discovery, a now shared dream realized. the fondest memory of piltover viktor probably has, if he was asked.]
[ shōyō was expecting another picture to roll in to add to his growing mound of palamemes (that is what they’re called now and i take no corrections), excited to see that the file incoming is a playing video. oh, neat— but that dude next to viktor ain’t viktor.
the spectacular show of lights is exciting and— less than halfway through shōyō yells. was this in real time? viktor looked a touch younger, but, the lights. the magic! it was almost beyond his sense of reality but then again, looked so damn real that—
yells!!! ]
viktor were you in a movie?? is this you?????? VIKTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[someone say palamemes to pal's face, please. it's something he needs to be made aware of immediately.
but yes, when viktor checks his message he frowns, confused. movie? what? it takes a moment of looking before oh. yes, memories have been being put on the network for some baffling reason or another. he supposes he should be glad it was a) a pleasant one and b) not on the network itself.
(in a way it's bittersweet though. he does miss jayce when he allows himself to. hextech too, in an odd way.)
right, how does he explain this newest Trench Bullshit tm.]
No, not a movie. I believe that was a memory, I've noticed they've been coming through omnis for some baffling reason.
Apologies, I suppose? I have no idea what triggered such a thing.
Well, I suppose that is one way of looking at it. The magic aspect was more Jayce's strength, in truth.
[tech wizard. he wants to either laugh or sigh at that not being totally off. thank god piltover never thought of that one and slapped it all over their jayce propaganda.
actually that would have been funny to viktor, personally, so maybe he regrets they didn't.]
Funnily enough Palamedes and I are attempting to replicate something like it with blood gems. Perhaps when we have a working prototype we can show you.
Absolutely. You are certainly welcome to come down to the lab if you are ever in the area.
[just don't... touch anything. it's just your jock is showing and his instinctual nerd has to worry he might blow himself up accidentally, rip.]
One of the things we are working on is a glove that can use a darkblood gem to mimic the darkblood telekinetic abilities and allow people to push objects or beings away. In this case the engineering is essentially tapping into the inherent arcane forces within the gem and translating it without the need for spilled blood or the innate abilities of a darkblood themselves.
[just wall of text, sorry his nerd in turn is showing]
[ i was like this is going to be charlie brown teacher- hell yes ]
Yes, essentially. It will need to be powered by darkblood gems but the longevity is looking promising so far. I have hopes of making something like a pacification field with paleblood gems, to trap beasts for purification.
[viktor definitely shows this enthusiasm to still trapped with rio palamedes.]
Well Palamedes has a few tricks it seems, between this and helping your team. A man of many depths. When we have a functional prototype I'll inform you, if you'd be interested in seeing it.
Thank you, though I suppose we should both be more careful sending pictures for a while, if something like this could happen. It's a new trick, to be sure.
an onion with soooo many layers. guess that just gives us more reasons to show them to each other in person, right??
[ it is sadly (or not sadly—? shoyo's turn to prove the point. the video that's sent to viktor seems obvious enough, and by high-energy (fun) behavior with others, it's clearly shoyo! the game is intense and harbors a crowd of cheering spectators for more than hour's worth of a grand match announced over loud speakers: the msby black jackals VS. the schweiden adlers!. somanymoments from the very start of the game, tothemiddle, toend— and perhaps so passionate, quick-moving and that even entertaining that first time watches could have a hard time stopping. the black jackals win, and no one on that court is left saddened.
plus, shoyo's got a veryfertileimagination even during (or was that just an unbelievable amount of concentration?). ]
[viktor's first reaction is genuinely wondering if shōyō sent him a video to some volley ball stuff. of course it becomes immediately clear shōyō is in the video, so ah. a memory- a good one he hopes?
yes, he's pretty sure it is, though he also has no fucking idea what's happening half the time. he calls pal over and they sit on the couch together, watching this majestic display and likely making baffled commentary. what is a dink? why is that man wearing a cape suddenly? how does any human alive have as much energy as shōyō? mysteries.
but it's fun? it's fun in a way viktor wasn't really expecting. he's never cared for sports, just couldn't find them engaging in the socially acceptable way that others bonded over with small talk and surprise tickets. perhaps it's different when you know someone playing, perhaps he simply likes shōyō well enough to give it a proper chance, maybe having pal there to peanut gallery with him makes all the difference, or maybe it's just that good of a game but?
congrats, you have successfully managed to make viktor arcane enjoy a Sports Ball match. the true power of shōyō.]
I think congratulations are in order. Palamedes also compliments your playing, mostly along the lines that you hit the ball very well.
I am afraid this sort of match may have been lost on us but I admit, it was rather fun to watch.
??? oh thanks!! my birthday’s in three weeks still but that’s awesome to hear!
[ wait, was that . . . what he was talking about? shōyō has a feeling that he should scroll back. rather, picanha mentally nudges him to. lo and behold—! ]
wait wait wait you guys saw the whole thing?
[ viktor and pal……………… sat down and watched volleyball for like two hours?! ]
[same as pal, he'll have to make something else now too. what can he make for a volleyball loving man... he'll figure it out. but right ok shōyō realizes what happened now. yes, they actually watched a Whole Volley Ball, praise them.]
Yes, it was quite the match, at least I have to imagine it was. If every volley ball match was like this I'd be shocked people can handle the sport for so long.
Oh, my apologies if it was personal? We did not mean to invade.
on the 21st but i already got the best present?! you and pal watched one of my games!!!!
[ HE WISHED HE WAS THERE— well, he was, but maybe not in a way that he could see them. the way viktor will know, for a fact, that shoyo does not feel invaded in the slightest: ]
they're all that intense!! for real!! that was one of my favorite games!! what was your favorite part?! do you want to see more??? i have memories of the olympics and men's international league!!
[ shoyo "STEP INTO MY MIND I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE" hinata ]
[ok, here is viktor chuckling out loud at most of that. well. nevermind invading his private thoughts, apparently shōyō will offer a streaming service if he could. he's not sure he believes every single game can be that intense but he imagines to shōyō they must be.
hm, maybe the lens of shōyō's mind is part of what made it such an engaging ride.]
I am afraid this is terribly... sap? Sappy is the word? Palamedes tells me that is the word. It is sappy of me but I rather enjoyed the end and how satisfied both teams seemed. It was not what I would have expected.
Well, if you learn how to project those memories I wouldn't say no. Perhaps you can come over and commentate.
[aka be there to explain shit because they have no fucking idea what's happening more than they really should. at least pal has the excuse of a world without volleyball, viktor is just the worst.]
most of us from that game were friends from high school, all from different schools!! that was the first time in years that we got together again, so we really missed a good game.
[ it's too late. viktor has invited a japanese man who is naturalized as brazilian and that means his sports narrations are crazy wild. the pact is sealed. ]
so it'd be a super pleasure to narrate the olympics for you guys!!
[ shoyo has to put down his omni for just a second to rub his hands together. aw, yeah. ]
it's an international sports festival! we've got the summer and winter olympics where A LOT of athletes representing their countries get together in one place to compete for medals! they're done every 4 years! i played in the summer olympics for japan in 2021, men's volleyball and beach volleyball division!
next time i'm going to try and play for brazil in beach volleyball. I've been living there for years before trench.
[he needs a minute to wonder why there are two. is it that much different on a beach? the sand he guesses? volleyball is a fascinating and mysterious sport]
And they'll allow you despite not being a native? Interesting, your world seems rather peaceful all things considered. That it can come together for this sort of competition.
[it also occurs to him this probably means shōyō is hot shot sports guy? like he's in this big world thing? huh. look at that, knowing a Sports Celebrity. probably.]
