[ by the time they're both done, shoyo throws his back against the bare sand. sometimes, this might be the only way to put things out there. sometimes staying quiet and hitting things just doesn't have the same effect. it doesn't make the thoughts and the ache and the rage quiet.
the orange-haired athlete is heaving, staring up at the dark night sky, the dull orange lull from the nearby fire and the fantastic blue shimmers from the ocean paths like reflect like clouds. ]
Sometimes, [ he says, in between his breathing, ] shit's just ugly, Vi.
[ the anger that still lingers in his voice is there, around the edges. but it's softer now— doused. a little more thoughtful about it. ]
[he's right. nothing will make this ...good. they just have to get past it, or around it or through it - whatever. lines in the metaphorical sand have already been drawn - people have died, words have been given that can't be taken back. she sighs, reaching for picanha's cold, wet, omen-nose if it's there to be found.
as if on belated cue (fang is on fang's time, really) vi's omen forms into a small enough version of themself that they're just about collie sized, leans into the warmth of the fire and lets out a soft huff as her tail flops onto violet's feet.]
Yeah. I ...hate it. [a tiny half-shrug] But at least we're still here?
[ picanha licks her lips and nose, lifting her head to the touch. with his back against the sand, shoyo raises his hand and keeps it splayed over his head, moving his fingers one at a time.
those words may be the death to some that didn't want to be here. ]
It's who we're with— Like right now. I'm here with you. [ shoyo decides that's the answer that makes sense to him. when things get rough and awful, he does what just about anyone would do: wish for home. wish for peace, for his life as it used to be. but he wasn't the same, now. he wouldn't exist at this point if it hadn't been for trench. he has mixed feelings about it, but ends up rolling his rump until he's seated upwards again. ] That's what makes me get up in the morning. It's you guys.
[ sharing, talking, yelling profanities at the ocean— ]
And it's what's going to make me have your backs even more.
[she knows those people must exist - those who just want to be home - and there would have been a time when she'd have felt the same. it's more the moment she was plucked from than anything else. there's nothing left (maybe) to go back to. contemplating what might be back there is ...worse than being here, even if it means being without caitlin, or without her sister.]
Me too. It's the people I have here. The people who ...maybe need me? [her mouth twists a little. is that even a thing? she's carved herself a little space, sure, but ...is she really needed? well. she's certainly needed more than silco is.] The people we need?
Back at ya. [see. what she did. there. haha she is just. so funny.] I've got your fronts, too.
[ shoyo offers a fist for her to bump, knuckles exposed— picanha takes it upon herself to offer a paw on top of that, and it boasts a chuckle from the red head. oh, dogs are great. he loves how his omen looks now. it totally fits her.
he supposes that it’s what totally fits him, actually. ]
—Here, I want to show you something. [ shoyo folds his legs into a cross and takes a deep breath in to straighten his back. ] You’re a great fighter, and a great person. It can help with every aspect of your life, if you want to learn how to meditate.
It won’t . . . Resolve everything, [ he gestures to himself, like the screaming he did a few moments ago, ] but it can help you get your balance back.
[ it’s another tool, should she choose to use it. ]
Oh, I lost that a long time ago when my face hit the sand.
[another joke as she bumps her knuckles against his, but she's watching as he shifts his legs, and she positions her own similarly, even though they feel like dead weight just now. fang moves aside and curls around behind her - if nothing else to assist in keeping her upright. vi smiles at the first compliment, stills at the second, blinking but not balking.]
Yeah. Sure, I'll give it a go.
[she lets out a breath, unsure of what to do next.]
Alright. Relax your shoulders, close your eyes— and focus on how you’re breathing. If you start thinking about other things, it’s okay. Just bring yourself back to breathing when you do.
[ and from there, shoyo will instruct vi on the basics of meditation. it’s a simple thing, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. results come with practice and daily use.
if she does end up using it through her daily routines, she’ll find it does do her good in the long run. stress. pressure. clear-mindedness. balance, even. it helps.
[it's easier to relax than usual because of the exhaustion, but still - yeah, a bit of leftover tension there that the warmth of her omen - the fire - and the tone of shoyo's voice helps to ease out of her. breathing is pretty easy once she realizes she keeps holding it (maybe that's one reason she's sighing so much). where her thoughts had been racing days earlier - and this might have been impossible - now? she's drank, screamed, cried, punched and shouted at the ocean until all her waves are defeated, and she's more just like the shallow pool she'd found on the beach, or the crackling cinders of what had been a blaze. her mind wanders a few times, but it's back to breath soon enough. some of those breaths are sighs, but, hey.
she comes out to the beach every morning to look for her sister, and to look for starks. she can take a few moments there, or on the roof of her room when the moon is safe to be under.]
